I wrote the plant manager of Ash Grove Cement after painting the exterior from a Port of Seattle Public Access park many times. I was allowed to visit one winter day when the wind was spitting small amounts of snow. The steam coming off the cooling chambers of the enormous, rotating, horizontal pipe kiln was dramatic, but the heat radiating off it was welcome!
