I got to visit the interior of the Ash Grove Cement Plant on a wintry day. I stood up in the tower that feeds ingredients into the horizontal rotating kiln. I battled the wind and snow to hold my drawing board down long enough to capture the geometry of the scene, while the legs of my tripod kept slipping through the grated walkway. The heat radiating off the kiln kept my fingers warm enough to get the basic shapes down!
